Weavers Way Co-Op Launches 50th Anniversary Sandwich

In celebration of its 50th Golden Anniversary Weavers Way Co-op has created a signature sandwich called the “73” to celebrate the co-op’s origin in 1973. The “73” sandwich consists of grilled chicken, cheddar cheese, arugula, sweet peppers, and goddess mayo. A vegan alternative with baked tofu and vegan mayo is also available. The sandwich will be on sale for $7.30 at all three locations Ambler, Chestnut Hill, and Mount Airy, throughout the month of March.

The launch of “73” follows Weavers Way’s 50th-anniversary initiative of introducing specialty programming, events, and promotions throughout the 2023 calendar year. The programming began in early January with a simultaneous cake-cutting celebration at all three stores for guests and employees. Since the kickoff, a new 50th-anniversary logo has debuted that highlights the co-op’s 50 years in business. Weavers Way members have also formed and created subcommittees for planning special events for the 2023 year including the launch of Weavers Way’s newest location in Germantown, the 5th anniversary of its Ambler location, and the 3rd anniversary of the co-ops vendor diversity program.

As the largest grocery co-op in Philadelphia, Weavers Way is using this monumental year to thank and show appreciation for its member base of over 11,000 households between its three locations. The co-op started with the purpose of being community-based in the products offered in the store and evolved to taking on issues such as environmental sustainability, plastic reduction, food justice and racial diversity, equity, and inclusion.
