Ever since that mesmerizing viral video about the making of rainbow bagels hit the Internet, people have been “losing their shit” (according to Buzzfeed) over them. While I think that is blowing it out of proportion, they are fun and different.
These colorful bagels are the brainchild of Scot Rossillo of The Bagel Store in Brooklyn. You knew it would only be a matter of time before they popped up in Philly. And they have.
In fact, I just enjoyed one at Westmont Bagel in Haddon Township (South Jersey) this morning. It brightened up what is turning out to be a cold and gloomy weather-wise day.
So that lead me to research where else you can get a rainbow bagel, or tie dyed bagel as some are calling them, in the Philly area.
Chestnut Street Bagels

Township Bagel Cafe (same owners as Westmont Bagels)
288 Egg Harbor Road
Sewell, NJ
You can get birthday batter or “funfetti” cream cheese at these locations to with your multi-colored bagels.
A Google search also brings up Custom Bagels in Media, PA, but after placing a quick call to them, they reported that they do not make them. While they think the concept is cool, they don’t believe there will ever be a demand for the novelty item. Not to mention it’s too labor-intensive for little return.
So, what do you think? Passing fad or something charming?
Also, have you seen rainbow bagels anywhere else around town or Philly area? Let us know!

The Bagel Spot in Cherry Hill, also owned by same family as South Street
I figured they did, since they are in the same family, but I couldn’t find any confirmation online — so I didn’t want to assume. Thanks for confirming!
