This is Why I Ditched DIY for My Philly to NYC Move

This is a guest article submitted by Taras Kim.

Alright, let me admit this: I’m among those who enjoy a good road trip. But the thought of moving all of my belongings by myself from Philadelphia to New York City? That was a clear no. I needed backup. I thereby took an unusual step forward and hired professional movers. Warning: it was the greatest call you’ve ever made.

Why Stress Over Moving When You Can Explore NYC?

I mean, I love the Schuylkill River Trail, Philly cheesesteaks, and all that brotherly love. But I knew it was time for a change when an amazing job opportunity in NYC presented itself. Broadway, that electric energy and the siren call of bagels sealed the deal. Though I was excited about the new job, the idea of moving away? Not in that way.

The crew at WellKnown Moving was helpful in this situation. They are moving experts from Philadelphia to New York City, and compared to trying to parallel park a U-Haul in Manhattan, they made the entire process way less stressful.

My Stuff, Their Expertise

I was a little anxious about giving up my grandmother’s antique dresser and my priceless record collection. However, WellKnown Moving allayed those concerns. They packed, loaded, and ensured that everything made it to my new walk-up in NYC undamaged. They handled everything like pros.

Packing? I’ll Pass

Since packing is the worst, let’s be honest. However, these movers moved in like master packers. All of a sudden, my apartment was filled with carefully labeled boxes, prepared for the big move. It resembled magic in motion. Not to mention, they have really amazing Tetris skills for managing to fit everything into their truck.

It’s Time to Get on the Road—But Not Really

The best part? I was able to avoid the dreaded long drive, gridlock, and toll booths. Instead, while the movers did the heavy lifting (literally), I relaxed and began organizing my first NYC bagel crawl. I even managed to fit in a last cheesesteak at Pat’s—priorities, huh?

Settling into NYC, Stress-Free

When we arrived in New York, our movers unloaded everything just as carefully as they had packed it. That meant I could focus on exploring my new neighborhood and scoping out the best pizza slice instead of hauling boxes up endless flights of stairs.

Pro Tip: Get Your Quotes

Choosing the right moving company is key.  Get a few quotes, compare prices, and look for companies with good reviews –  a little research goes a long way.

If you’re planning your own Philly to NYC adventure (or anywhere, really),  give serious thought to hiring professional movers. It might just make the difference between the move from hell and a chance to actually enjoy the excitement of starting fresh in a new city.
