PrimoHoagies Grand Re-Opening of Original South Philadelphia Location

On Wednesday, June 10, PrimoHoagies will officially celebrate the grand re-opening of its original location at 1528 W. Ritner Street following a full remodel of the flagship store that first opened in 1992. More than three decades after serving its first hoagie in South Philadelphia, the newly redesigned restaurant reflects the evolution of a brand built on premium ingredients, family recipes, and an unwavering commitment to quality.

Built on premium meats and cheeses sliced fresh to order, proprietary fresh-baked seeded bread, and family recipes rooted in tradition, PrimoHoagies has grown from a single South Philadelphia storefront into a nationally recognized brand. Recognized as America’s Best Sandwich Shop by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards in 2023, 2024 and 2025, PrimoHoagies remains grounded in the craftsmanship, quality and attention to detail that defined the original location from day one.

At 10 a.m., Nicholas Papanier Jr., Owner, President and CEO of PrimoHoagies, alongside members of his family, team members, community leaders and local dignitaries, will commemorate the reopening with PrimoHoagies’ signature “Breaking of the Bread” ceremony — honoring the quality, craftsmanship and South Philadelphia roots that have defined the brand for more than 30 years. In efforts to give back to the community it will serve, the local PrimoHoagies team will also present a $500 grant to PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society) to support the organization’s dedication of saving Philadelphia’s homeless and at-risk pets and serving pet owners in need.

Following the ribbon cutting and grant presentation, the newly remodeled PrimoHoagies will reward the first 100 guests in line with a FREE Primo-Sized Hoagie* available during the event. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., guests are invited to enjoy the PrimoHoagies prize wheel with PrimoHoagies-branded giveaways, performances from one of Philly’s top DJ teams DJ Smooth, on-site entertainment, and more. At 11:45 a.m., one guest onsite will be selected to win FREE Hoagies for a Year!**

“This is where it all started for us,” said Nicholas Papanier Jr., Owner, President and CEO of PrimoHoagies. “The re-opening of the original PrimoHoagies is a humbling reminder of how far we’ve come as a family business and the standards that were established here from day one. More than 30 years later, we’re still family-owned and guided by the same commitment to quality, authenticity, and community. Reopening this location is a chance to celebrate those roots while continuing to serve the neighborhood that has supported us from the beginning.”

The original PrimoHoagies will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., offering dine-in, takeout, delivery, online, and mobile ordering options. The brand provides catering services, including its popular hoagie trays, Italian sides, charcuterie-style options, and desserts — ideal for game days, office lunches, and special events. The new store will employ approximately 15 team members.
