Mahalo Hawaiian BBQ Now Open on South Street

Are you craving a delicious and satisfying meal that transports you to Hawaii? Good news! Ivy Cheng, the owner of “Jade Fashion Boutique” located at 250 South Street, next to Nora’s Tacos, has opened Mahalo Hawaiian BBQ at 117 South Street.

Hawaiian food returns to Philadelphia on South Street

Mahalo, which means “Thank You” in Hawaiian, the new Hawaiian BBQ eatery in the Headhouse District will open its doors in the former Tamarind Thai space, offering an extraordinary dining experience inspired by the flavors of the Aloha State.

Cheng explained, “Hawaiian BBQ is a popular dish in Hawaii; it typically consists of rice, macaroni salad, and a grilled or barbecued meat entree, such as chicken, beef short ribs, or Kalua pork.” This quintessential Hawaiian dish is typically called a “plate lunch.”

Acknowledging the vegetarians and plant-based eaters, she said, “There will be some vegetarian options on the menu, as well, including a green salad, fruit salad, and a tofu dish.”

We haven’t had Hawaiian/Polynesian food in Philadelphia since Poi Dog closed at the beginning of the pandemic. This is great news!

More details as we get them, but this sounds promising!
