I have to admit, I didn’t know what birria tacos were before I saw Chef Jennifer Zavala talking about them a few months ago. She thought it was time for us to learn why we all need these traditional Jaliscan street tacos in our lives.
She started doing a few birria taco popups out of Underground Arts located at 1200 Callowhill Street. The popups have been so successful (selling out every time) that she’s making them a regular thing along with her famous tamales.
But first...What are Birria Tacos?
Birria Tacos—in simple terms—contain a stew traditionally made with goat or lamb, chilies, and spices and served in a crispy taco shell with cheese, alongside an accompanying cup of hot consomé to dip the taco in. It’s usually made for special occasions, but any time is a good time for a birria taco in Philadelphia. 🙂
So, if you’re wondering where to get birria tacos in Philadelphia, wonder no more. Follow Jennifer.
