Times continue to be challenging for our local restaurants. All businesses are being put through the wringer as the effects of the pandemic linger, and inflation continues, but restaurants might be feeling the pinch even more. Yet, they carry on amid a lot of uncertainty and chaos. Here’s hoping for better times in 2023 and people giving grace to those brave enough to open and operate any restaurant during these crazy times. Some, like Matthew Daniel of BurgerFi in Cherry Hill, are plugging away despite the many challenges since opening a few months ago.
BurgerFi joined an already crowded field of burger restaurants in South Jersey. People wondered if the region even needed yet another burger place. BurgerFi in Philadelphia has been open for many years, albeit in a very high-traffic area of the city (directly across the street from Reading Terminal Market). Popular burger chains like Shake Shack, Habit Burger, Fatburger, and others have opened on both sides of the bridge in recent years. Independent joints like Burgertime in Audubon, NJ, have opened, and others like M2O Burgers & Salads continue to expand in both PA and NJ. The burger craze isn’t going away anytime soon!
According to its website, BurgerFi was established in 2011, and founded by gourmet chefs committed to serving the highest quality fresh food in an eco-friendly environment. The burgers are from natural Angus beef sourced from the leading ranches in the country and they make fresh-cut, made-to-order fries, and also offer frozen custard desserts.
Daniel, 30, a Blackwood resident, has expressed immense optimism that BurgerFi will compete well in the local burger scene. In fact, he is so convinced that BurgerFi has staying power in South Jersey that he’s already looking at locations for a couple more franchises he intends to open in the coming years. I guess we’ll have to stay tuned!
In the meantime, Daniel is inviting Philly Grub readers to come in and offer 10% off their orders through the end of December 2022. Please use the coupon below. Either download it and print it, or show it on your phone when you arrive before placing your order. Tell them Philly Grub and/or South Jersey Food Scene sent you!
