Brazas BBQ Chicken opened as a ghost kitchen in October, offering Peruvian chicken and other Peruvian specialties. Now it is in soft opening mode as a restaurant with some limited indoor seating at 326 South Street.
There are only a few Peruvian chicken places in the Philadelphia area, so another option for serving Peruvian cuisine is an excellent new addition to the Philadelphia food scene.
Chef Juan Placencia has been in the restaurant business since very young. His parents emigrated from Peru to the United States in 1984 and ran Peruvian restaurants in New Jersey. He then went to culinary school and worked at a few prominent restaurants in Manhattan before opening his own Peruvian restaurants in northern New Jersey.
Now based in Philadelphia, he felt the time was right to open a casual restaurant featuring his native cuisine and introduce another option for delicious Peruvian BBQ chicken in the city.
What makes Peruvian chicken so special is its preparation and cooking. Pollo a la Brasa, or roasted whole chicken, is marinated in a powerful combination of garlic, herbs, and spices before roasting on a spit, or rotisserie, producing a bronzed, crispy skin.
Brazas BBQ chicken menu features whole, half, and quarter chicken dishes with or without sides and a choice of housemade cremas and sauces.
Starters and small plates include empanadas, ceviche, hot wings, and skewers. Customers can also select an entree featuring creamy basil spaghetti with breaded chicken cutlet.
Sides of French fries, yucca fries, rice & beans, fried rice, macaroni and cheese, plantains, street corn, and salad are available.
There are also some desserts on the menu, such as Cafe Con Leche Flan.
Brazas is open from 11 am to 10 pm, Wednesday through Sunday.
