Celebrate Family-Friendly Cinco De Mayo at Cantina La Martina

Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner, which means Cantina La Martina is preparing for another big day of festivities at the celebrated Kensington restaurant.

Chef/owner Dionicio Jimenez, currently a finalist for the James Beard Foundation’s “Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic,” and his team will be hosting a seriously delicious, fun-filled day featuring two DJs (one for kids), a barbacoa pit, piñatas, face painting, a photo booth, authentic Mexican food and drinks, and more on Friday, May 5th from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the restaurant located at 2800 D Street in Philadelphia.

The Cantina will open at 11 a.m., and family festivities will commence once school is out, with a kid’s DJ, piñatas, and face painting taking place from 3 to 5 p.m.

At 6 p.m. a Sonidero DJ focusing on cumbia and other Latin genres and a live band – La Carcaña – will perform as guests will enjoy a special menu featuring chicken wings, pork and beef ribs, esquites, goat and beef barbacoa tacos, chicharron, and more. In addition to this special menu being offered inside the restaurant, there will also be food and drink tents and a food truck operating in the restaurant’s expansive Agave Garden, which can accommodate up to 300 guests comfortably.

Beverages will include a selection of beers from Mexico, Micheladas, classic margaritas, frozen margaritas, and paletas (fresh fruit Mexican popsicles). There will also be a special “Puebla La Vida” featuring a six-pack of beer along Cantina’s mixed ceviche including scallops, crab, tuna, tilapia, octopus, and shrimp for $100. The special feeds six people. The regular menu will not be available.

Cinco de Mayo festivities will be walk-in only, with no reservations, and open tables available for seating inside or outside.
