Playa Bowls Now Open in Northern Liberties

Playa Bowls, the nation’s leading superfruit bowl shop specializing in bowls such as acai and pitaya, oatmeal, chia, smoothies, juices, cold brew and more, today announced that its new shop in Philadelphia will be opening Saturday, March 25. The newest shop, located in the city’s Northern Liberties neighborhood, marks the brand’s 16th Playa Bowls in Pennsylvania.

Located at 807 N 2nd Street, the new shop will be offering free bowls or smoothies and free T-Shirts to the first 50 guests in line on March 25th, 2023. Additionally, the shop is partnering with other local businesses to provide five days’ worth of giveaways on its Instagram account, where winners will receive free merchandise from participating vendors.

The Northern Liberties shop is operated by Rich Miller, Director of Operations, and franchise owners Stephen Sheriff, and Jim and Sue Dale. With nine existing shops throughout Pennsylvania, and two additional Philadelphia locations opening this summer, the multi-unit operators saw the Northern Liberties location as an opportunity to grow their own passions for the brand and expand Playa Bowls’ presence in another energetic, dynamic area of the city.

“The Playa Bowls brand brings vibrant, fresh options to the city of Philadelphia, and we are so thrilled to be introducing this incredible superfruit bowl concept to a new neighborhood,” said Rich Miller. “Our team of multi-unit operators believe the Northern Liberties location will allow the brand’s delicious bowls and smoothies to be more accessible to Philadelphia’s residents, who continue to prove there is a demand for fresh, healthy menu items in the city.”

Guests at Playa Bowls can pick from an extensive menu of creative bowls or customize their own, choosing from a variety of proprietary blends and bases made with superfoods including pure acai, pitaya, chia pudding, coconut, kale, banana, oatmeal and more. Layering on toppings including fresh fruit, seeds, nuts, granola, dried berries and nut butters. The superfruit bowl shop also offers a selection of juices, smoothies, cold brew and more. Playa Bowls can be made Vegan, Gluten Free, and can be adapted to integrate into Whole 30, Keto, and Paleo diets.

Founded by surfers Abby Taylor & Rob Giuliani, Playa Bowls was born out of the desire to recreate the delicious, refreshing, healthy versions of acai and pitaya bowls the pair encountered on various surf trips to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, California, and Hawaii. At each beach, the duo discovered new and unique twists on this popular post-surf treat and came home wanting more. The pair set up a blender and a folding table on the boardwalk in their hometown of Belmar, and Playa Bowls was born. Eight years, thousands of employees, and hundreds of thousands of bowls later, Playa Bowls continues to offer superfruit bowls with a mission to lead communities in healthy, sustainable living.

Since its inception in 2014, Playa Bowls has emerged as a leader in the national superfruit bowl shop segment and specializes in bowls such as acai and pitaya, oatmeal, chia, smoothies, juices, cold brew and more. Today, the brand has 175+ shops systemwide, operating in 20 states, with plans to continue to expand its domestic footprint across the U.S. and globally.

The new shop will be open seven days a week from 9am-7pm.
