Considered one of the best wineries in Pennsylvania, Galen Glen Winery is bringing its beloved wines to Philadelphia for pairing at the next installment of River Twice’s Hidden in Plain Sight dinner series on Tuesday, June 7th beginning at 5 p.m. at the restaurant located at 1601 E. Passyunk Ave.

Behind owners Galen and Sarah Troxell, as well as viticulturist farmer and wine grower Erin Troxell, the Andreas, PA winery, which was established in 1995, just began bottling their 27th vintage. The Napa Valley Register once said their Gruner Veltliner was “the best in the United States,” and Forbes called it “a benchmark.” The winery is also very well known for their remarkable Riesling.
Galen is a mechanical engineer and sixth generation farmer, as well as an industry-leading mechanical wizard, while Sarah is a chemist who traded in corporate careers to grow grapes and launch the winery. A noted tastemaker, she was once nationally recognized as the “Best Woman Winemaker” at the International Women’s Wine Competition held in Sonoma County, CA. The contest is generally dominated by West Coast wineries, and Troxell became only the second East Coast winner to take home the title. Erin completed degrees at Cornell and Montpellier SupArgo before going to work in some of the most famous wine regions in the world such as France, Germany, New Zealand, and Napa. A seventh generation farmer to the land, Erin returned to Galen Glen as the head of the wine growing team.
The seven-course dinner will feature both indoor and outdoor seating with reservations available from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Dinners cost $130 per person, or $150 at the chef’s counter (four seats with two turns per night). Due to the nature of the event, dietary restrictions cannot be accommodated. Reservations can be made via Resy.
The Hidden in Plain Sight dinner series is a multi-course dining event featuring a total collaboration between Rucker and a guest chef or a beverage brand. Among the 17 previous collaborations to date include dinners with Chef Alex Yoon, Chef Amanda Shulman, Pastry Chef Abby Dahan, Chef Christopher Kearse, Chef Matthew Erik Harper, Hale & True Cider, Human Robot Brewery, Garden State Mushrooms, Chef Shola Olunloyo, Chef Diego Moya, (Brooklyn), and Chef Evan Hennessy (NH).
River Twice highlights local, pristine ingredients and produce-driven dishes on their constantly changing menu. River Twice was named “Best New American Restaurant” by Philadelphia Magazine in 2020, and in 2021, Randy Rucker earned honors as “Best Chef.”
