One of my favorite places to eat is the Silver Diner in Cherry Hill, which is not too far from my house. The reason I like it so much is that while they call it a diner, it’s elevated diner fare. It offers a nice variety of dishes, including many plant-based items, which is great. There are the usual suspects that you’d expect at a diner, but then there is creative and foodie stuff on the menu, too. There’s something for everybody. It’s always very good and comforting. And what we need through this time is good old-fashioned American comfort food, right?

Already pros at online ordering and cashless pickup without getting out of your car looong before the pandemic, it wasn’t a stretch for them to accommodate guests in this way. But naturally, it meant scaling back their menu and focusing on the most popular items to make food ordering easy with as little waste as possible. I respect that! It’s still a very impressive menu if you ask me. In addition to Build-Your-Own-Burgers, soups, salads and sandwiches, a few classic entrees, and even breakfast anytime, you can still get their awesome deluxe shakes, too. As always, there are healthy and flexitarian options, of course. And don’t forget dessert!

Tonight we were invited to check out their curbside pickup service so that we could tell you all about it. As mentioned before, we were already fans of dining in, so it was time we tried carryout. So, I got in my car, and it took me 5 minutes to get there which is unheard of around the Cherry Hill Mall. But with fewer cars on the road, it was a snap to get there. And my order was ready when I pulled up.

It only took me 5 minutes to get home, but the food was still warm and I didn’t need to reheat it. I got the Turkey Platter and he got the Meatloaf Platter. Both came with a green salad, mashed potatoes, and veggie medley. His meatloaf had a garnish of onion strings. Both were very good, but he was raving about my turkey (I let him have a piece) which was quite tender. Both came with their own gravies – herbaceous brown gravy for the meatloaf and an herbalicious turkey gravy for the turkey.

I couldn’t resist also ordering dessert — two pieces of Smith Island Cake — which is a lovely layer cake that is the official dessert of Maryland (which is where the Silver Diner is headquartered). So, I felt like I traveled to MD without actually leaving the state. 😉 They happened to have two flavors today so we had both — carrot cake with buttercream icing and a lemon cake with a vanilla frosting. YUM!

Everything was scrumptious and we can’t wait until this is all over so that we can dine-in again, but in the meantime, this was a nice way to support a restaurant we enjoy. So, if you’re in the Cherry Hill area, please consider hitting up the Silver Diner one night for dinner. They’re also doing affordable family-style meals that serve a family of four. Just call ahead and it’ll be ready for you when you get there. Be sure to treat yourself to a deluxe shake, while you’re at it. 😉
Many thank to the Silver Diner for the hospitality, as always, opinions are our own!
