Our hearts go out to the family of Isiaka Meita who was the victim of a random shooting Sunday during a graduation party. This post by our former High Street Manager @bettemeddler captures the character of this young man who held so much promise: Truly blessed to have known this sweet soul. I refuse to allow him to be a statistic of Philly’s escalating gun violence. Isiaka was one of the kindest, most positive and energetic people I’ve ever known. He was a backwaiter at Fork, the sister restaurant to High Street, where I was the manager. The two restaurants were physically connected and Izzy worked for us at both. He was a skilled backwaiter at Fork and then would switch gears and be the most badass busser I could ask for for the crazy busy brunches we had at High Street. Yes, Izzy was a hard worker. But he was so much more than that. He was the breadwinner for his family, a responsibility he took on after the passing of his father. He was also an aspiring film maker. He knew I had a background in acting and we would talk often about acting, film making and storytelling. We would talk about his ideas and dreams, plots for his film projects. He had so much light and love to offer this world. I just happened to run into him on 13th st this past Friday. He was as happy as ever. If you can, please consider donating to the GoFundMe. His family depended on his financial contribution. My heart aches for their loss.
