Cotoletta, the rustic BYOB Italian restaurant, located at 201 Jefferson Street in Bala Cynwyd will be open for brunch only on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“I’ve wanted to offer an Italian-style brunch since we opened nearly two years ago,” she said. “I’m excited for our guests to feel like they are coming to eat at their grandmother’s home on Sunday mornings. That is the welcoming feeling I am determined to evoke at my restaurant,” chef/owner Beth Amadio explained.
Amadio’s new brunch menu features the Breakfast Stack ($18), a spinoff of the restaurant’s signature Stack entrée — an insanely delicious dinner favorite consisting of layers of chicken and eggplant cutlets and provolone cheese, with a sausage-stuffed long hot pepper tucked between the crispy cutlets. The version Amadio created for brunch includes a crispy chicken cutlet, and a sausage-stuffed long hot sandwiched between Belgian Waffles, all topped with a sunny side up egg.
Another standout is the Giambotta ($14), which is a legendary Philadelphia favorite that was featured at some of South Philly’s beloved restaurants and luncheonettes during the 20th century, including the original Shank’s & Evelyn’s, which was operational between 1962 and 2009 at 10th and Catherine Streets. Amadio’s is made with three eggs, Italian sausage, onions, peppers and potatoes.
Other highlights include:
-
Lemon Ricotta Pancakes topped with a blueberry reduction;
-
Stuffed Challah French Toast with berries, bananas, mascarpone, and vanilla sauce;
-
Eggs Benedict with prosciutto, Hollandaise and jumbo lump crabmeat;
-
Frittatas (including an egg-white option) with Italian sausage, spinach, asparagus, artichokes or mushrooms;
-
Crostinis including one with smashed avocado and sunny-side egg;
-
Pepper & Egg, Meatball and Chicken Cutlet Sandwiches;
-
Milan Salad with iceberg, bacon, tomatoes, chopped egg, shrimp and house dressing.
“It’s just delicious, hearty stick-to-your-ribs food that makes you feel good,” said Beth. “It’s worth the climb up the hill, and we’re BYOB, so we expect our guests on Sunday mornings to bring mixers for our fresh-squeezed orange juice and house-made Bloody Marys!”
Cotoletta means “cutlet” in Italian. It was named the Best of the Main Line & Western Suburbs 2017 Critics’ Choice for its chicken and veal cutlets (Milanese, Parmesan, marsala and piccata).
