If you follow local food and sports on social media, you will already know these names. Ron Sullivan of Corner Pub Sports, a blog and podcast all about Philly sports, and John Cohl, local food scene ambassador-at-large have teamed up to launch Corner Pub Kitchen, a pub grub concept at The New Sheffield Tavern in Mayfair, Northeast Philly. Cohl made the official announcement on Instagram:
They are preparing to debut Corner Pub Kitchen on Monday, May 1 with a creative, yet neighborhood-friendly menu of hot dogs, tacos, sandwiches, and more custom designed by Cohl.
“I’m giving the staff easy starters for the launch just to gauge interest. Eventually we’ll expand to burgers, pulled pork, brisket, fried chicken, etc,” says Cohl.
Well-known for his social media presence, John is also a local food consultant to food trucks, restaurants, and other food-based businesses. He’s the “Goodwill Ambassador” for the Philadelphia Mobile Food Association and is on the local food competition judging circuit. He has a long history working in the food business dating back to the 80s.
“This is a neighborhood that deserves delicious food, with big flavor, served at a reasonable price. Familiar “pub grub” style dishes done creatively!” adds Sullivan.
In addition to podcast host, Ron is a bartender and MC at the tavern.
Cohl is a weekly contributor to the Corner Pub Sports blog and podcast with his “Corner Pub Grub” recipe series. He had been considering doing a pop-up somewhere in the city. When the opportunity presented itself at The Sheffield Tavern, it made sense for them to partner on the venture.
The Sheffield Tavern is located at 4501 Sheffield Street.
