DC-based sweetgreen, with 4 locations in the Philadelphia area, has launched their Winter menu and I’m happy to share with you. Wish they would open one in South Jersey so I could try them! (hint, hint).
The Warm Lentil Bowl is a hearty Mediterranean-inspired dish that defies categorization as a “salad” – it’s a stew with bok choy, powerhouse veggies and roasted chicken, topped with organic chickpea + lentil soup.
The Apples + Butternut Squash salad is served with local winter squash which has a sweet and nutty flavor and packed with Vitamin A to boost immune systems all season long.
Lastly, the Bento Bowl is sweetgreen’s take on a Japanese “Bento Box,” filled with rice, nori furikake, roasted Steelhead fish and a miso, sesame ginger vinaigrette.
In efforts to source locally and sustainably, sweetgreen is adding a new healthy seafood option to the menu – Steelhead trout. Similar to salmon but with a milder and butterier flavor, Steelhead is raised in the Columbia River and has been praised as one of Monterey Bay Aquarium’s “Best Choices” for sustainability because it’s farmed in pristine waters between two dams, helping to provide the river with nutrients that improve the neighboring wildlife. In addition to great flavor and sustainability, the fish is also packed with omega-3 fatty acids and high in protein, and it has myriad health benefits.
