Recipe Philly restaurant front entrance

Recipe Philly, the first-of-its-kind culinary contest and restaurant concept where Philadelphia-area home cooks competed to earn a place on a real restaurant menu, t will open its brick-and-mortar restaurant at Broad and Arch streets in Center City on Monday, August 17.

The restaurant brings the Recipe Philly contest to life, giving guests the chance to order winning dishes created by everyday Philadelphian area cooks. Built around the idea that the city creates the menu, Recipe Philly spotlights the people, cultures and stories behind the regionโ€™s most meaningful home-cooked dishes. All of this, of course, being documented for a tv series.

โ€œRecipe Philly was created to celebrate the recipes that live in Philadelphia homes โ€” the dishes passed down, perfected, reinvented and shared around family tables for generations,โ€ said Ed Baumstein, creator and founder of Recipe Philly. โ€œNow that the restaurant is officially open, weโ€™re seeing this idea become real: a menu built by the people of Philadelphia, for Philadelphia.โ€

With 150 seats in the dining room and 22 at the bar, the flagship Recipe Philly restaurantโ€™s opening-day menu features the top 31 dishes from the competition across a range of categories: appetizers, salads, soups, sandwiches, pasta, entrees, and desserts. Chef Andy Revella, the restaurantโ€™s operating partner, and Jarrett Oโ€™Hara, vice president of culinary operations, have converted each winning recipe into a restaurant-quality dish that can be produced in a commercial kitchen.

โ€œIn creating Recipe Philly, we wanted to provide a space for all people to truly taste the flavors of Philadelphia, from lifelong Philadelphians to those who are visiting the City of Brotherly Love for the first time,โ€ Revella said. โ€œWhether youโ€™re joining us for a business lunch, grabbing a quick bite before catching a show on Broad Street, or exploring a newfavorite spot for a night out, Recipe Philly promises to be a culinary experience unlike any other.โ€

As for the process, following a public casting call that drew over a thousand entries from across the region, 60 contestants were selected to share the recipes, family stories and neighborhood flavors that were judged and documented for reality tv style show. Filming began in November 2025, with the project being pitched to network and streaming partners. No further details are available about that at this time, so stay tuned.

Recipe Philly is located at 1401 Arch Street, at the corner of Broad and Arch Streets in Center City Philadelphia. Located next to One City apartment complex, directly across from the Pennsylvania Convention Center and just steps from City Hall.

Specific details about the menu haven’t been announced either. We’ll share the menu as soon as we have it. If all goes well, they plan to roll out this concept in other American cities. Nice to see Philly as the inaugural city to launch it!
