117 Old City is Closed

Another restaurant in Philadelphia has announced that it is closed.

117 Old City, an American restaurant and bar at 117 Chestnut Street in Old City, shared the news with customers on social media and thanked the community for its support over the years. The Google page and website are not yet updated as of this publication.

The restaurant was a popular spot for locals, tourists, and private events. Its menu featured American favorites like steaks, seafood, burgers, sandwiches, bar pies, and cocktails. The venue also hosted live entertainment and celebrations, making it a key part of Old City’s nightlife scene.

In its farewell message, the restaurant thanked its loyal guests, employees, friends, and everyone who supported them over the years. Although this is the end of their time in Old City, the owners focused on the memories and relationships they built with customers.

For those who never visited, 117 Old City was both a neighborhood spot and a destination for visitors exploring Old City.

This closure is one of many recent restaurant departures in the Philadelphia area. It highlights the ongoing challenges independent restaurants face with rising costs and changing customer habits.

As Philadelphia’s restaurant scene changes, the closing of 117 Old City marks the end of another independent spot that helped shape the neighborhood’s hospitality.

Fans expressed sadness about its closure on Instagram.

Letโ€™s hope that location doesnโ€™t stay vacant for long. I have been going to various restaurants and clubs in Old City since the 1990s. It has changed drastically over the years. So many businesses have come and gone. I almost don’t recognize it from way back in the day when I DJed at several spots in the neighborhood.

But Old City is still one of Philadelphiaโ€™s more lively dining and nightlife destinations.

Good luck to everybody at 117 Old City.
