McGillin’s Olde Ale House Launches Holiday Pop Up Shoppe

McGillin’s Olde Ale House, the oldest continuously operating tavern in Philadelphia and one of the oldest in the country, is opening a Holiday Pop Up Shoppe. It’s the first time the 163-year-old bar, which is like a winter wonderland during the holidays, has opened a Holiday Pop Up Shoppe.

The Holiday Pop Up Shoppe will be full of t-shirts, hats, ornaments, bottle openers, glassware, sweatshirts, and lots of holiday surprises sporting the McGillin’s logo. It is located at 1314 Juniper (at the corner of Juniper and Sansom), just one block from the historic tavern, which is located at 1310 Drury Street, between Chestnut and Sansom, 13th and Juniper.

The Holiday Shoppe will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12 noon to 6 p.m. starting on November 24 (Black Friday). The bar is open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

It takes 15 elves 5 hours to decorate McGillin’s for the holidays with 3,000 lights, 1,000 feet of garland, 300 ornaments and 150 red bows. Many people, including multi-generational families, make a visit to McGillin’s as part of their annual holiday tradition. They come to soak up the Christmas atmosphere at McGillin’s, and indulge in the holiday-themed drinks, Christmas beers and reasonably priced meals. There’s a roaring fire all season long and appearances by Santa Claus, Mummer’s Bands and Irish dancers.

“McGillin’s is the original Christmas pop up bar — it’s like Christmas on steroids here. And people love to stop here before or after the visiting Christmas Village or the Light Show at Macy’s or City Hall,” said Christopher Mullins, Jr, who owns McGillin’s with his parents, Mary Ellen and Chris Mullins, Sr. “Now guests can visit our Holiday Pop Up Shoppe to get items that capture their holiday memories and bring back those warm memories all year long. Or if the bar is five deep with holiday revelers, shoppers can go directly to the Pop Up Shoppe for t-shirts, ornaments, caps, onesies, gift cards and other gifts.”
