Philabundance, a hunger relief organization serving Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern Jersey, and Feeding San Diego, the Feeding America food bank serving San Diego, have entered into a fundraising challenge to support hunger relief efforts in both the Philadelphia and San Diego region.
As the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres face each other on the baseball diamond, Philabundance and Feeding San Diego kick off a donation challenge asking both cities to raise funds for hunger relief while bringing awareness to food insecurity in their regions.
“While our hometown teams battle on the field, we all can unite in the fight to end hunger. As our city is celebrating how well our Phillies are playing, it’s hard to be joyful when we know too many people in our area struggle to put food on their table,” said Loree D. Jones Brown, Philabundance CEO. “We know Philies fans like competition and always rise to the occasion, so we know we can depend on them for their support of the Phillies when they play the Padres AND when we ask them to support this challenge so we can beat San Diego on the field and off!”
With the cost of food rising, too many people struggle to access the nutritious food they need. Food banks like Philabundance and Feeding San Diego are committing to provide those nutritious options to the communities they serve but they need the support of the public to continue this work.
The funds raised will not only help each city feed their communities, but the losing city’s food bank CEO will need to wear gear from the winning food bank.
