Drink Like a Fish(towner) at Fishtown Social

Fishtown Social, located at 1525 Frankford Avenue in the middle of Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood, is hosting its second “Drink Like a Fish(towner)” fundraising event, which will see owner Vanessa Wong open every bottle in the house for a special wine tasting on Wednesday, September 21st from 5 to 9 p.m.

One of the city’s top natural wine destinations, Fishtown Social has hosted a number of events since opening in 2016, but none were as successful as the first iteration of Drink Like a Fish(towner), which took place in February of 2020.

“This event was a massive success the first time around, and we always planned on doing a few more of them,” said Wong. “But the first one happened just weeks before everything shut down, so we haven’t been in a position to do this event again until now. Now that we can, we are beyond excited to welcome in the neighborhood, open all of our bottles, educate some people on different varietals of wine, and make some donations in the process. It’s just good to see Fishtown bustling again, and I’m super excited for what should be a really fun night.”

With limited space, there will be two sessions — one from 5 to 7 p.m., and another from 7 to 9 — with tickets costing $50 apiece. Wong will provide hors d’oeuvres from the restaurant including meat, cheese, and bread, and tomato pie from Liberty Kitchen PHL will also be available. All food is included in the ticket price, and guests will be able to taste approximately 100 different natural wines from the restaurant’s bottle shop and bar. Tickets are available for purchase beginning September 1 in person at Fishtown Social, or via email by contacting fishtownsocial@gmail.com. All guests (21-and-up) are welcome, and tickets are completely transferable. Walk-ins will also be welcome pending space and availability. On the day of the event, all wines purchased from Fishtown Social’s shop will be 10% off.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Lutheran Settlement House, Fishtown Social’s neighbors.

Fishtown Social features a rotating selection of reds, whites and sparkling wines, as well as cocktails, beer, and shareable small plates. The wine bar and bottle shop are open seven days a week.
