Summer may be over but there is still much to celebrate before pumpkin season kicks in! National Negroni Week is September 12-18 and all Fearless Restaurants will participate in what has become an international celebration of a classic cocktail.
In 2013 Imbibe Magazine launched Negroni Week as a celebration of one of the world’s great cocktails and an effort to raise money for charitable causes around the world. Since then, Negroni Week has grown from about 120 participating venues to thousands of venues around the world, and to date, the initiative has raised over $3 million for charitable organizations. The benefactor is Slow Food, a global movement of local communities and activists across more than 160 countries seeking to change the world through food and beverage. During Negroni week Fearless Restaurants will donate $1 to the organization from each of the Negroni Tea Time purchases.
A classic Negroni consists of sweet vermouth, bitters, and gin. All Fearless Restaurants will feature a Negroni Tea Time ($15) made with Earl Gray tea and locally-made Irvine’s Gin.
According to Fearless Restaurants Director of Beverage Michele Gargiulo, “Earl Grey tea is a tea blend which has been flavored with oil of bergamot. The rind’s fragrant oil is added to black tea to give Earl Grey its unique taste. The combination of the gin and Earl Gray is a unique and smooth take on the traditional cocktail,” she added.
The Negroni cocktail is an exercise in simplicity, sophistication, and restraint. One hundred years after its invention, the original Negroni is all you need for a mini vacation to the heyday of modern Italian culture.
The Negroni is a slow-sipping drink, so many in its Italian homeland (as well as around the world) prefer it served on the rocks, garnished with an orange slice. Not only is the Negroni a classic cocktail, but if you are looking for a cocktail with a bit of a healthy aspect to it – it also happens to have one of the lowest sugar contents of all cocktails.
