Philadelphia already offers many upscale steakhouse dining experiences, is there room for another? The people behind Steak 48 are betting on it and apparently think there is enough to set them apart from the others. They plan to offer “the complete package,” boasting “great food, drink, service, and ambiance.” So, get ready Center City, another fine dining steakhouse is headed your way.
If the Chicago and Houston menus are any indication, prices seem on par with other steakhouses in Philadelphia, with a few eyewatering exceptions. Have you ever seen a $32 macaroni and cheese side dish in Philadelphia? Well, the pricy Steak 48 version features Alaskan King Crab and rock shrimp, so I guess that checks out. If that’s a little too rich for your blood, there’s one without seafood for a mere $11. How about a $19 twice-baked potato with shaved black truffles? Regular old whipped potatoes will only set you back $9. How does a $29 poke bowl sound? I think you get the point. 🙂

Steak 48, an award-winning, upscale steakhouse concept from brothers Jeffrey and Mike Mastro and partner Scott Trolio, will open its doors in April 2020, introducing to Philadelphia a menu featuring the best in prime steaks, American Wagyu steaks among other items including chef-inspired non-traditional items surrounding a menu of classic steakhouse favorites.
Steak 48 was created to differ from the steakhouse of pure tradition, which tends to collectively embody the same general blueprint. When developing Steak 48, the Mastro Brothers were thoughtful in every detail to make their new concept something that would exceed their guests’ expectations of a traditional steakhouse. Steak 48 features bold art, an intimate, sexy layout, and design with luxury personal service that ensures guests receive a total experience in a fine dining steakhouse that is unpretentiously approachable and perfect for any occasion, from any night of the week to a special event.
At the helm of the kitchen will be Philadelphia-native Executive Chef Robert Watson (Dominick’s Steakhouse and Steak 44), with support from Chief Executive Chef Marc Lupino, who leads Prime Steak Concepts’ Steak 48’s culinary program and has been part of the team since the early 2000s. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of high-quality menu items to suit any individual preference, featuring the very best in USDA prime steaks, and ultra-premium wagyu beef, seafood flown in daily, shareable chef-inspired appetizers and side dishes, creative salads and tantalizing desserts. Steak 48 has many gluten-free and vegetarian menu options, and sources locally-grown ingredients, whenever possible.
Located along the Avenue of the Arts at 260 S Broad St, (corner of Broad and Spruce) Steak 48 will be ideally positioned adjacent to the world-renowned Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, and on the ground level of The Post Brothers’ new luxury apartment building, The Atlantic. The warm contemporary steakhouse will feature an upscale and energetic environment while remaining a steakhouse at its core—complete with a classic-yet-interesting menu and a comfortable, stylish atmosphere.
The 12,000-square-foot, ground floor restaurant will house a collection of intimate spaces including a beautiful mezzanine with a spectacular view of Broad Street, designed by Judith Testani of Testani Design Troupe representing the perfect balance of warm, modern designs with a timeless feel. Highlights include a vibrant bar, a floor-to-ceiling glass expo kitchen, intimate dining kitchen suites and multiple dining rooms featuring eye-catching architectural detail, offering seating for up to 450 people.
Serving as a perfect complement to the decadent menu, Steak 48’s extensive wine program features a robust collection of expertly-chosen varietals from around the world, including more than 48 wines by-the-glass and 650 by-the-bottle, spanning a wide range of options all best in class.
