South Jersey ShopRite Supermarkets Honor Veterans

Zallie Supermarkets, Inc., which owns and operates seven ShopRite Supermarkets in Camden and Gloucester Counties, will once again roll out the red carpet to welcome over 40 South Jersey veterans during the Seventh Annual Luncheon to Honor VeteransSaturday, May 19 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. This year’s store events take place on Armed Forces Day, a holiday that encourages people to thank military members for their patriotic service in support of the country.

Storeowners Bruce and George Zallie and nearly 2,000 ShopRite associates look forward to hosting the annual lunches each May as a way to give back to and recognize veterans who live in the communities served by their ShopRite stores.

“These brave veterans are our neighbors, friends and role models and we are humbled to once again host six veterans and their families at each of our seven stores. These special lunches give us a moment to pause and help recognize the enormous sacrifices veterans have made for our freedom,” said Bruce Zallie. “In addition to this year’s luncheon, all Zallie Supermarkets, Inc. ShopRite stores will offer active and retired military personnel, with proof of ID, a 5 percent discount on in-store purchases made Saturday, May 19, as well as every Monday beginning May 21.”

Stores hosting luncheons and offering the military discount include: ShopRite of Williamstown, ShopRite of Sicklerville, ShopRite of West Berlin, ShopRite of Glassboro, ShopRite of West Deptford, ShopRite of Chews Landing Road in Laurel Springs and ShopRite of Laurel Hill in Clementon, NJ.

With the help of local VFW locations, six veterans are identified and invited to attend each store event for a delicious lunch and recognition ceremony.  Store Directors act as emcees, presenting each veteran a certificate of appreciation along with gifts. Each veteran receives a $200 bank gift card, a patriotic floral arrangement created by Zallie’s Own floral department, a gourmet fruit and cheese basket prepared by Zallie’s Own produce department, as well as a Swarovski ornament bearing the inscription, “Home of the Free, Because of the Brave”.

The full course hot buffet luncheon showcases the talents of Zallie’s Own catering department with salads and a variety of freshly prepared dishes created with Zallie’s Own trademark recipes. Dessert includes a full-size scrumptious sheet cake displaying insignias representing each branch of the military, baked and decorated by each store’s master bakers.

Zallie Supermarkets, Inc. is a family-owned and -operated business with a vision to make stores a warm and welcoming place to shop. Ever since Bruce and George’s father, George Sr., opened his very first corner store in the 1950’s, the family has continued to provide its shoppers with superior store made food and baked goods using only the freshest ingredients available. The Zallie Family is committed to giving back to the communities they serve, especially by hosting the Annual Luncheon to Honor Veterans every May.
