There’s a few notable new restaurant openings in South Jersey this past week. They’re all chains, two are franchises. Here’s what’s new in South Jersey.
Shake Shack – Marlton, New Jersey
This is the first Shake Shack location in South Jersey at The Marlton Commons where Routes 70 and 73 meet. Burgers, fries, hot dogs, a chicken sandwich, milkshakes, and “concretes” round out the menu. MSC Retail handled the real estate acquistion. It’s already proving to be very popular with long lines; best to go earlier in the day like Good Food New Jersey did recently.
Honeygrow – Marlton, New Jersey
Right next to Shake Shack in Marlton is the 2nd South Jersey location for the fast-growing Philly-based fast-casual chain honeygrow. The first opened in Cherry Hill three years ago. I’m a big fan of their stir fries and salads.
Frutta Bowls – Cinnaminson, New Jersey
Frutta Bowls is a fast-growing fast-casual health food concept that started with a location in Howell, New Jersey in 2017. It now has 15 franchised locations in three states: NJ, South Carolina, and Alabama and plans to open 100 more in the next couple of years. There are several locations in Central and North Jersey. The Cinnaminson restaurant is the 2nd franchised location in South Jersey, with the other being in Marlton. They are scouting a location in Cherry Hill and eventually plan to expand to Southeastern PA including Philadelphia. They offer Acai bowls, Pitaya (dragonfruit) bowls, kale bowls, and oatmeal bowls made with fresh ingredients every day. There are several smoothies on the menu, too. I LOVED the pitaya bowl I had. I will be back to try them all eventually. Such a great healthy option for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Whole Hog Cafe – Cherry Hill, New Jersey
Whole Hog Cafe relocated next to Wine Legend on Route 70 in Cherry Hill. They had previously been open at another location down the road for about five years. They decided it would be best to reopen next to Wine Legend to make it easier to BYOB. This is the 2nd South Jersey location of the Arkansas-based franchise. The other is in Medford, NJ. We really enjoyed the BBQ items we had (scroll through pictures below). It’s solid BBQ in South Jersey.
Are you excited to try any of these new restaurants in South Jersey?

I think you’re jumping the gun on Shake Shack. Marlton Commons is still just a developer’s dream. Too bad–I was salivating.
OK, but Shake Shack is open! Go check it out.
