The Halal Guys Open in Northeast Philadelphia

Halal Guys Northeast Philly

The popular fast-casual restaurant The Halal Guys is continuing its Philadelphia area expansion, openrf its third location at 2550 Grant Avenue on March 24. The Northeast Philadelphia store joins the wildly successful Chinatown (1016 Race Street) and King of Prussia (150 W. Delkalb Pike) locations, both of which opened in 2016. Much like the United States, American Halal food is a complex melting pot of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors that are sure to delight.

“Before I became a franchisee, I was a long-time customer of The Halal Guys food and the loyalty that the brand represents,” said Grant Avenue owner Naveen Mohiuddin. “The quality of the service and food is known throughout the country, which has helped both the King of Prussia and Chinatown locations to become widely successful over the last two years. As a Philadelphia native, I am excited to bring another restaurant to the area.”

The restaurant’s menu offers a mix of Middle Eastern-style chicken, beef and vegetable dishes served with lettuce and tomatoes over rice in platters and as foiled-wrapped pita sandwiches. Famous for its white sauce and hot and bbq sauce drizzled over its food, all of The Halal Guys dishes (with the exception of the vegetarian options) feature high quality and responsibly sourced meat. The never-been- frozen chicken is marinated and seasoned overnight, cooked and chopped on the grill and then served piping hot from the grill to customers’ plates. The seasoned beef is sliced on vertical broilers and then chopped and grilled. Dishes can be topped with onions, jalapenos, olives and green peppers and served with sides of fries, hummus, baba ghanouj or tahini.

The Halal Guys began in 1990, when founding partners Mohamed Abouelenein, Ahmed Elsaka and Abdelbaset Elsayed opened up a hot dog cart on West 53rd and 6th Avenue in New York City. As business grew, they recognized a huge demand from Muslim cab drivers looking for a halal food meal and decided to offer a platter of chicken and gyro over rice instead of hot dogs. Nearly three decades later, there are over 200 The Halal Guys franchises located across the globe.

Doors open at 2550 Grant Avenue at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, with the first 100 guests in line receiving free platters. The next 100 guests will receive exclusive The Halal Guys swag. Everyone who visits the restaurant can enter to win either a 50” television or tickets for two to an upcoming Sixers game. Daily hours will be 11 a.m.- 11 p.m., Monday-Sunday.
