Puyero Venezuelan Flavor(524 S. 4th Street) commemorates El Día Internacional De La Arepa (World Arepa Day) with an assortment of 6 new sweet and savory Arepas available from September 8th to September 10th.
As Venezuela’s most popular dish, it is no surprise that Venezuelans have created a special day to honor the arepa, paying homage to the country’s rich culture and heritage.
“Arepas are not only the most popular meal in Venezuela, they are an important part of Venezuelan identity,” says Gil Arends, co-owner of Puyero.
The featured arepas showcase the different sides of Venezuelan lifestyle and identity, highlighting the many flavor profiles found in classic Venezuelan cuisine.
“The De Parilla and Dominguera arepas have the flavors of a Venezuelan barbecue,” says Simon Arends, Gil’s brother and co-owner of Puyero. “While the Arenita and Playita capture the essence of the food sold in Venezuelan beaches.”
Traditionally made with ground maize dough and often split in two to make sandwiches, Puyero is spicing up authentic arepas with unique and delicious ingredients and flavor combinations. Patrons will have the opportunity to sample arepas made with cilantro and spinach and even beets. Eager diners can choose to stuff their arepas with a variety of fillings from shrimp, sauteed vegetables, chorizo, tuna and more. What’s more, Puyero will feature a dessert arepa that’s sure to satisfy any sweet tooth.
“We decided to venture into new territories by creating a chocolate fried arepa filled with nutella and strawberries,” says Manuela Villasmil, “Because who doesn’t love chocolate?”
The new arepas will be served at Puyero Venezuelan Flavor all weekend starting on Friday, September 8th through Sunday, September 10th, along with all regular menu items. Customers using Caviar will be treated to free delivery on these special arepas throughout the weekend.
The World Arepas Day celebration comes after the recent addition of Sweet Corn Cachapas to Puyero’s menu. Like Arepas, Cachapas are a key staple in the Venezuelan diet, made with ground sweet corn cooked like pancakes, traditionally filled with white cheese and nata (latin sour cream).
