Celebrate National Catfish Month at Rex 1516

Rex 1516, Philadelphia’s go-to for elevated Southern-inspired cuisine, is celebrating with two month-long features — Smoked Catfish Dip & Chips, as well as the über-popular Pan-Fried Cornmeal Catfish.

Catfish Dip & Chips at Rex 1516

The Smoked Catfish Dip & Chips ($12), an appetizer perfect for sharing, is comprised of smoked catfish, lovage oil, scallions, dill and bbq chips. The catfish is cold smoked to retain its moisture and flakiness, and then chunked and mixed with cream cheese, sour cream, cheddar, hot sauce and a handful of spices for flavor! The dip is served with a side of bbq chips slathered in Rex 1516’s famous brisket rub.

Lead Bartender, Lou Dinunzio, suggests pairing The Smoked Catfish Dip & Chips with a pint of locally brewed, Stickman Wishbone Wild Wheat Saison ($6).

Additionally, Rex 1516 will feature a guest favorite, the Pan-Fried Cormeal Catfish ($23) all month, served with cornmeal dredged catfish, black eyed peas, herb and pepper salad, fava bean puree, crispy collards, and house-made hot sauce.

Lou Dinunzio suggests pairing the Pan-Fried Cornmeal Catfish with a glass of Masseria Borgo Dei Trulli Vermentino ($11).
