Glenfiddich Whisky came to town on Wednesday, April 12 and hosted a tasting at Assembly Rooftop Lounge, on the 9th floor of The Logan Hotel (1840 Benjamin Franklin Parkway). They invited us so that we could sample some of their newest releases including the Glenfiddich Bourbon Barrel Reserve 14 Year Old and their experimental Project XX. More on them later.
The whisky tasting was run by Tracie Franklin, East Coast Brand Ambassador of Glenfiddich. She is an expert on the Glenfiddich single malt whisky line-up. Her knowledge of the brand and whisky in general, was quite impressive. I don’t consider myself a novice when it comes to whisky, however I realized that I still had so much to learn after her presentation.
She thoroughly explained each whisky, making sure to highlight the flavor profile nuances and preparation of each spirit. It was a truly educational event that left me walking away with a greater appreciation of Glenfiddich, but also feeling more knowledgeable about the whisky-making process in general.

Glenfiddich Whisky Tasting in Philadelphia
The Glenfiddich 14 Year Old, exclusive to the United States, uniquely delivers a bourbon heart with the soul of single malt. Matured for 14 years in ex-bourbon American Oak casks, the whisky delivers beautifully complex flavors of woody spices combined with ripe summer fruit, resulting from the spirit’s interaction with the casks. After waiting patiently for 14 years, Glenfiddich Malt Master, Brian Kinsman, finishes the whisky in deep charred new American Oak barrels supplied by The Kelvin Cooperage in Louisville, Kentucky. The result: a rich, sweet and vibrant single malt; with a caramel-vanilla flavor profile.
Glenfiddich Whisky Project XX
Glenfiddich’s Project XX is the result of a collaboration between 20 whisky experts and Glenfiddich’s Malt Master, Brian Kinsman. The experts – many of them the foremost authorities on Glenfiddich in their respective countries – have accumulated a wealth of whisky knowledge between them and spend their lives introducing single malts to whisky connoisseurs, enthusiasts and novices. The result is a refined and balanced flavor with candy floss sweetness and a rich vanilla oakiness. Deep and mellow, the initial sweetness is complemented by unusual notes of toasted almonds, cinnamon and a hint of crisp tannin.
A dram of good whisky? Don’t mind if I do!
It was fun to sample all of them, but my personal favorite was probably the 15 Year Old. It had a glorious honey flavor to it. A very good sipping whisky, but would also be great for a Manhattan or Sazerac any day of the week.
If you’re a whisky fan, you probably already love Glenfiddich. If you’re just getting started, Glenfiddich 12 Year Old is a good introduction. It’s got a lower ABV (alcohol by volume) so it’s very mellow and smooth. Overall the flavor profile is very fruity and subtle.
