UPDATE 2:
I’m proud to announce that I will be one of the judges at this competition! This free event will be held at The Franklin Bar between 6-8PM, is open to the public (space permitting), and attendees are welcome to participate by voting on their favorite cocktail as well. Food will be provided.
UPDATE 1:
The deadline has been extended to submit cocktail recipes for the USBG “Make It Exotico” Cocktail Competition’s semifinal event in Philadelphia. Participants can now submit their recipes until 11:59pm on Tuesday, April 18.
Participants can submit their entries online here: https://usbartendersguild.formstack.com/forms/make_it_exotico_competition
The USBG “Make It Exotico” National Cocktail Competition is coming to Philadelphia, and local mixologists are invited to submit their recipes for a chance to compete. The semifinal competition in Philadelphia is on May 9 at a location TBD.
They are calling mixologists across the country to submit their best cocktail recipe using Exotico Blanco or Reposado Tequila as the base spirit.
At the six semifinal events, participants will each have seven minutes to make their cocktails live for four judges, and drinks will be judged on appearance, aroma, creativity, taste and overall impression. Judges – who will include USBG professionals, tequila experts and local media personalities – will determine one winner at each semifinal event.
The semifinal winners will receive an all-expense paid trip to Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans to compete in the final round of the competition. A crowd-favorite cocktail, as voted on by the audience, will also be determined at each semifinal event. Crowd-favorite winners will receive a gift card
The other semifinal cities are: Nashville, Tenn.; Denver, Colo.; Portland, Ore.; Seattle, Wash.; and Charleston, S.C.
The six winners from each of the semifinal events will advance to the final competition at Tales of the Cocktail. There, the finalists will once again create their cocktails live for the judging panel, which will taste the cocktails and determine the Grand Prize Winner based on the same judging criteria as the semifinal competitions.
The Grand Prize Winner will receive an all-expense paid trip to Destiladora González y González, Exotico Tequila’s distillery in Jalisco, Mexico, where the winner and a guest will receive a private tour of the many aspects of the distillery.
