Here’s a mini round-up of some St. Patrick’s Day shenangians and specials happening this week that you should consider if you’re still looking for something a little less tacky than the Erin Express.
BRICK and MORTAR
315 North 12th St
Chef Brian Ricci’s weekly evolving 4th Spit menu features Irish classics with a twist:
-
Corned Beef Toast
-
Irish Point Oysters
-
Blood Pudding & Scallops
Featured cocktail of the week Cameron’s Kick:
You bet there’s whiskey in there!
On St. Patrick’s Day itself (Thirsty Thursday!), BRICK and MORTAR is pouring Irish Whiskey flights.
Spirits include Tullamore Dew Phoenix, Teeling Single Malt, Teeling Single Grain, Yellow Spot, Green Spot, and Red Breast 12.
Prices are: $22 For a Flight of 3 (1 oz pours) or $28 for a Flight of 4 (1 oz pours). Go for the 4! You deserve it.
Square 1682
121 South 17th St
From Thursday through Sunday, Square 1682 is offering $3.17 Irish Whiskey shots, which can be enjoyed as-is or added to a freshly made juice from the juice bar.
Um, you might have to call out “sick” from work the next day.
Additionally, Chef Caitlin Mateo is whipping up Green Eggs & Ham omelettes packed full of greens and savory ham through Sunday.
Red Owl Tavern
433 Chestnut St.
Lead bartender Kyle Darrow (pictured) will be pouring an Irish Whiskey flight, featuring Green Spot, Jameson Caskmates, and Powers.
Also included in the flight is a glass of Red Awl IPA – a unique collaboration with Dock Street Brewery brewed exclusively for the Red Owl Tavern. The flight (three Irish whiskeys and one Red Awl IPA) is $25.

My husband and I love the Red Owl Tavern. It has some of the best views from the front window of Old City and Independence Hall. Nice wine list, too! We will be back on an upcoming “First Friday” art crawl. Enjoyable post, Marilyn!
Yes, the Red Owl Tavern is really nice. Thanks for your comment! 🙂
