Last week we attended a media event at SugarHouse Casino where they announced that high-end steakhouse Hugo’s Frog Bar & Chop House will be opening in the $164 million expansion which will be ready by the end of December 2015. This is exciting news not only for the casino, but for those looking for another steakhouse option in Philadelphia.
For those not familiar, Hugo’s is a Chicago-based restaurant run by the famous Gibsons Restaurant Group. They are the only restaurant in the country to have their own Prime USDA certification for beef. Gibsons Prime Black Angus beef is raised on sustainable farms in the Upper Midwest, corn fed for 120 days and aged for 40 days, providing maximum flavor and tenderness.
This will be their first restaurant in Philadelphia, second in a casino. They will offer a delicious menu featuring succulent steaks, choice chops, superior seafood, fresh fish, amazing appetizers, savory side dishes and delectable desserts. Of particular interest will be the exclusive “Philly Cut” steak that will only be offered at the new SugarHouse location; it is a 12-ounce rib eye cap, topped with smoked provolone, crispy shallots and fried herbs. It’s as good as it sounds, trust us.
Based on our tasting at the casino that day, this will be a welcome, if not overdue, addition to the local restaurant scene. We’re excited they chose to open in Philadelphia and highly anticipate the official debut of Hugo’s Frog Bar & Chop House at the SugarHouse Casino. We’ll keep you posted, of course!
In the meantime, I captured video of SugarHouse General Manager Wendy Hamilton and Gibsons Managing Partner Patrick Houlihan making the announcement on the waterfront patio at SugarHouse last Wednesday, September 2nd. Warning: video is wobbly and there are audio glitches.
