Washington Ave welcomed Vons Chicken this past July, bringing mouthwatering Korean fried chicken to South Philly, but the menu doesn’t stop there. What sets Vons apart from other Korean fried chicken joints is its oven-roasted chicken, offering a lighter option without sacrificing the indulgent sauces.

Franchisee Thao Le shared that Vons’ goal is to blend Asian and American cuisine, creating an approachable East-meets-West menu. The sauces range from garlicky to mild to spicy, giving diners plenty of options.

A standout is the padak chicken. It’s crispy fried chicken coated in a slightly sweet, tangy sauce made with soy sauce, mustard, sugar, and garlic. Together, the flavors hit that perfect sweet-and-sour combination. It’s topped with a pile of thinly sliced green onions that soak up the sauce while adding a fresh bite. It’s definitely a “new to me” way of eating fried chicken.
Vons also fuses its Korean chicken into other Asian cuisines through dishes like Vietnamese banh mi and Japanese chicken katsu. The menu goes beyond food, offering a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, such as fruity strawberry-apple fizz, mango tango, and classic lemonade. Draft beers add to the vibe, making Vons a fun and inviting spot to catch the game.
With plenty of seating, from booths to a long table that can accommodate larger groups, it’s easy to settle in for a meal with friends. Vons is an exciting new addition to Washington Ave’s growing food scene, creating a lively space to unwind while enjoying irresistibly flavorful Korean cuisine.
