Backal Hospitality Group (BHG) is preparing for the grand opening of Cellar Dog Philly, an entertainment and music venue with an original location in New York City’s West Village. This 8,000-square-foot venue, located at 258 S. 15th Street, opens to the public on November 21, 2024, bringing a unique blend of games, live music, and great bar food to Philadelphia.
“The Cellar Dog concept offers something truly unique— a fun and spirited space where people can come together to enjoy great music, connect over games, and unwind with drinks and Philly-inspired bar food,” said Arthur Backal, CEO of Backal Hospitality Group. “Opening in Philadelphia has been a longtime goal of ours. The city has an incredible energy and a deep love for music, arts, and culture that make it a perfect fit for Cellar Dog.”
Cellar Dog Philly will offer a no-fuss menu designed for sharing. Highlights include pub-style wings, the signature “Cellar Dog”, a Smash Burger, Hot Italian Sandwich, Short Rib Sloppy Joe, and, of course, a Philly Cheesesteak. For dessert, guests can indulge in Fried Twinkies with caramelized apples or enjoy a nostalgic Root Beer Float. Behind the bar, Cellar Dog offers an impressive selection of local and domestic beers on tap, approachable wines, and a full bar for cocktails and mixed drinks.
Cellar Dog Philly is set to become a staple for Philadelphia’s music lovers, featuring live jazz performances curated by Ehud Asherie, a respected jazz pianist and industry professional who has worked with a broad range of acclaimed musicians including Cécile McLorin Salvant, Wycliffe Gordon, Catherine Russell, and more, and has performed at clubs and festivals around the world. Audiences can look forward to performances from notable jazz musicians five nights a week, with late-night sets added on Fridays and Saturdays to bring a lively weekend energy. Designed to offer musicians the highest quality equipment, Cellar Dog boasts a collection of rare instruments, including a vintage 1945 Steinway piano and an A-100 organ from 1978.
In addition to a live music stage, Cellar Dog Philly features pool tables, ping pong, shuffleboard, and chess and checkers, as well as vintage arcade games like 1980s Tetris, NBA Jam, and bubble hockey. This mix of entertainment options adds that special touch to Cellar Dog’s vibe, making it an inviting space for both casual outings and celebrations. Throughout the year, Cellar Dog will host games tournaments.
Cellar Dog Philly provides a versatile setting for private events, from birthday parties to corporate happy hours. With spaces for both private and semi-private events, the venue can accommodate gatherings of 10 to 350 guests, and also offers group food menus to make planning quick and easy.

- Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday- 4:00 PM- 12:00AM
- Friday, Saturday- 4:00PM – 2:00AM
