Tyler Akin to Open Bastia in Fishtown hotel Anna & Bel this Winter

Tyler Akin of Form-Function Hospitality is partnering with Foyer Project to introduce Bastia to the forthcoming boutique hotel Anna & Bel in Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood at 401 E. Susquehanna Ave.

A laid-back restaurant with a leisurely all-day café, Bastia draws culinary inspiration from the Mediterranean and is anchored by the coastal cuisine of neighboring islands Corsica and Sardinia. The restaurant will make thoughtful references to kindred cuisines in Sicily and Croatia while maintaining its sense of time and place through the lens of seasonal mid-Atlantic ingredients.

Bastia will feature a vegetable- and seafood-driven menu, low-intervention wines from the coastal Mediterranean, and session cocktails and N/A drinks, with an emphasis on spritzes and aperitifs.

Akin is the Chef-Partner of celebrated French brasserie Le Cavalier at the historic HOTEL DU PONT and was Chef and Owner of now closed Res Ipsa in Philadelphia, which was named one of Bon Appetit“Best New Restaurants in America.”

Previously in his career, Akin worked in James Beard Foundation and Michelin-recognized kitchens including Zahav (Philadelphia) and Komi (Washington, D.C.)

Inspired by the cuisines of Corsica and Sardinia, highlights of Bastia’s menu include:

  • Grilled Lobster with saffron shellfish stew, pastis, and fresh chickpeas
  • Burrata with blood orange, pomelo, hazelnuts, dark chocolate
  • Clams with fregola, wild fennel, savory

With a rich history of crafting innovative real estate developments around Philadelphia, Bastia and Anna & Bel mark Foyer Project’s expansion into the hospitality field.
