Revival of the Punch Bowl: Where to Find Large Format Cocktails

With years of social distancing and indoor hangs in the past, all trends are now pointing to elbow-to-elbow bar seating and shared cocktails with friends. In comes the revival of the glorious punch bowl: the large-format cocktail made for sharing; the boozy centerpiece that keeps the conversation flowing as well as the drinks.

Philadelphians can now sip stess-frree from bowls overflowing with fruity concoctions like Bourbon or Rum Punch Bowls at The Twisted Tail and Orange Crush Fish Bowls at Xfinity Live!

The Twisted Tail, the Southern-inspired restaurant, bar, and live Juke Joint on Headhouse Square (509 S 2nd St, Philadelphia, PA 19147) known for its extensive array of brown spirits, serves up fruity Bourbon Punch and Rum Punch in two convenient sizes: Small for $40 (3-5 people) and Large for $80 (6-8 people.)

The Bourbon Punch mixes Makers Mark, Irish whiskey, grenadine, honey syrup, lime juice, ginger beer, and angostura bitters with orange and apple slices; the Rum Punch combines Goslings rum, Bacardi, Luxardo, pineapple juice, grapefruit juice, orange juice, grenadine, and club soda with orange wheels, mint sprigs, and apple slices. During Social Hour (4 to 6 pm) on Saturdays, the #SocialSaturday special offers $10 off Punch Bowls.

Guests can gather three or four friends to share the Crush Bar’s Orange Crush Fish Bowl ($50) with freshly squeezed orange juice with Smirnoff orange vodka, and splash of Sierra mist, or the Tropical Crush Fish Bowl ($60) filled with Smirnoff orange vodka, Tropical Red Bull, and freshly squeezed orange juice.
