Catch Chef Jennifer Zavala of Juana Tamale at Stratus Rooftop Lounge

Women’s History Monthcelebrations continue at Stratus Rooftop LoungePhiladelphia’s premier rooftop experience and night spot located on the 11th floor of the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in the heart of Old City, with the latest installment of their Women’s Way Wednesdays series of weekly pop-ups held in collaboration with Sisterly Love Collective

This time the attention is on Chef Jennifer Zavala of Juana Tamale, who has an array of birria-inspired bites and satiating Mexican fare prepared for attendees on Wednesday, March 15, from 5:30 – 8pm.

Women’s Way Wednesdays brings together the Philadelphia area’s top tier culinary and beverage talent to celebrate their talent and standing success, but also to benefit Women’s Way, Philadelphia’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of women, girls, and gender and racial equity. 100% of proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Women’s Way as well as a portion of purchased featured cocktails, brews and wine.

Zavala’s featured menu for Women’s Way Wednesdays include the following: 

Yam & Mole Tamales – Salsa verde

Michoacán “Gazpacho” – Cut melon, pineapple, papaya, orange, queso fresco, Chamoy, lime salt

Roasted Anaheim & Chicken Salad Tostadas – Queso Oaxaca, sesame seeds, romaine, whipped avocado

Nachos Aguachili (vegan option available) – Ceviche, shrimp, hearts of palm, pickled hibiscus flower, cucumber, serrano, cream, cilantro, onion, grapefruit

Tacos Durados – Beef birria, queso, potato

Warm Pineapple Tamales – Whipped cream, toasted coconut

Attendees can look forward to tea tastings led by Christa Barfield of FarmerJawn Community Greenhouses, a Philadelpha-based nonprofit aiming to create change and bring awareness to the matters of food waste and food insecurity, and the symbolic relationship between the two. Additionally, Philadelphia’s Queen of Funk Badd Kitti will provide the soundtrack for the evening, courtesy of her signature Keytar. Following the March 15 event, the line-up of culinary and musical guests include: 

Wednesday, March 22: Chefs Kiki Aranita and Olga Sorzano (Poi Dog, Baba’s Acid Trip) , Pastries provided by Kouklet Brazilian Bakehouse, and music by Tanqueray Hayward

Wednesday, March 29: Chef Thanh Nguyen of Gabriella’s Vietnam, and music by Andrea Nardello

Tickets for each Women’s Way Wednesdays event are $35 per person, are all-inclusive, and come with a complimentary beverage ticket. Tickets are available to purchase HERE.
