Support Black-Owned Restaurants in Philadelphia and South Jersey

Want to support Black Lives Matter in Philadelphia and South Jersey? You can start by ordering food from black-owned restaurants, cafes, and pop-ups that are open for take-out and/or delivery.

Kae Lani Palmisano (host of WHYY’s Check, Please) was inspired by folks in other cities who compiled lists to get the word out about black-owned businesses.

Along with help from freelance food writer Jenn Hall, they pulled together a searchable list of black-owned restaurants in Philadelphia and South Jersey and made it publicly available on a Google spreadsheet.

“The template was circulating around other cities,” Palmisano told Philly Grub.

“I saw Soleil Ho and Kat Hong developing one for Los Angeles, and Hannah Goldfield and Joseph Hernandez doing one for NYC. I was already helping with Philadelphia’s Dining at a Distance for COVID-19, but wanted to develop a consolidated list of black-owned restaurants specifically so people can help the community directly,” she explained.

So far there are over 70 businesses represented on the list. Support these restaurants!

Update! Charles Rumford mapped the restaurants here.
