Free “Wooder Ice” Alert

On Monday, July 20th, Clifton Heights, PA-based Rosati Ice will be providing free Italian Ice at Miles Park in Lafayette Hill as Simon’s Fund donates two AED units to Whitemarsh Parks & Recreation. They will be unveiling their new signage program at Miles Park to hundreds of campers. Signage donated by Jonathan Goldring of Visual Resources.

What is Simon’s Fund?

Simon’s Fund was established in 2005 by Darren and Phyllis Sudman of Lafayette Hill to honor the memory of their son Simon, who died suddenly when he was three months old of an unknown heart defect called Long QT Syndrome. Simon’s Fund raises awareness about the warning signs and conditions that can lead to sudden Cardiac arrest and death in children. It has provided free heart screenings to over 10,000 students. Of those tested, approximately 100 students have discovered potentially fatal heart conditions. It was behind the passage of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Act in Pennsylvania, the first law in the country to protect student athletes from sudden cardiac arrest. With the help of Simon’s Fund, this law has been passed in five other states as well. The organization recently launched HeartBytes, the first-of-its-kind youth cardiac registry for seemingly healthy kids in an effort to promote research. In 2014, Phyllis Sudman was named the 2014 National Woman of Worth by L’Oréal Paris, beating out more than 4,300 women who were nominated for this honor.
