Throughout March, Grace Tavern at 2229 Grays Ferry Avenue in South Philadelphia will donate proceeds from its roast pork sandwich sales to Triangle Plaza, located across the street from the beloved neighborhood institution. The funds will help raise much-needed capital for improvements to the park, including lighting and safety enhancements, as well as for live music and other programming that brings the community together. The sandwich features roasted pork, long hots, pork jus, and melted provolone on a grilled Mighty Bread Co. baguette for $12.
Triangle Plaza, overseen by the South of South Neighborhood Association (SOSNA), is a small neighborhood park in Grays Ferry located at the intersection of 23rd and South Streets. While Triangle Plaza has existed for more than a decade, the City of Philadelphia still considers it a temporary public space.
In an effort to secure grant funding from the city, SOSNA created the Grays Ferry Triangles Gateway Project in 2022, proposing $3 million in improvements to make the area more pedestrian-friendly, reduce traffic, and encourage more public gatherings and events. After the city received a $1.6 million grant to fund the improvements proposed by SOSNA, the neighborhood association must raise $30,000 from the community to begin the design phase. Support from the local community is essential for Triangle Plaza to become a permanent reality, and The Tavern Group, which owns and operates Grace Tavern, has decided to help advance these fundraising efforts.
“Our goal is to support neighborhood programming while bringing residents together through great food and local music,” said operating partner Brian Moyer. “Grace Tavern has long been committed to supporting the South of South community, and we’re honored to collaborate with the Association on an event that helps activate the park and celebrate our community.”
Grace Tavern’s Pork for the Park campaign will run through Tuesday, March 31.
