Guest Post: Irish Whiskey Recommendations by Fine Wine & Good Spirits

Get into the Irish spirit this weekend (or any weekend) with Fine Wine & Good Spirits.

Now is the time to enjoy a bit of Irish Whiskey. We recommend Jameson Black Barrel— a blend of pot still and grain whiskey that’s aged in both sherry and bourbon barrels. The bourbon barrels undergo a second char that give a prominent spice, vanilla, and nutty note without over powering the fruit notes from the sherry casks.

Our second choice is Redbreast 12 Year Old. This single pot, still whiskey is aged in Oloroso sherry casks and is full-bodied with creamy, fruity, sherry, spice, and toasted notes. These whiskeys can be enjoyed neat, with a splash of water, on the rocks, or in your favorite Irish Whiskey cocktail.

Speaking of cocktails… here’s a whiskey cocktail recipe provided by Fine Wine & Good Spirits.

Irish Coffee

  • 1 ½ oz Irish whiskey

  • 6 oz hot, strong coffee

  • Whipped cream

  • Optional: ¾ oz Irish cream, or a teaspoon of brown sugar

Pour the whiskey into a heat-safe Irish coffee mug. Add coffee, brown sugar or Irish cream, if desired, and top with whipped cream. Possible garnish: coffee beans, coffee grinds, brown sugar sprinkles or green crème de menthe drizzles.

Enjoy!
