Paola Sordo Barolo 2017 ($27.99) (Chairman’s Selection)
“A great opportunity to enjoy a style of wine which is ordinarily much more expensive and harder to find. You’ll find aromas of rose petal, iron and dried cherry with firm yet balanced tannins on the finish. I recommend decanting or opening the bottle ahead of time to allow for the wine to open up in full.”
Domaine Montrose Solis Lumen Orange 2022 ($12.99) (Chairman’s Selection)
“Orange wines have exploded in popularity and have become one of the most popular styles of wine on the market, especially with younger wine drinkers. This wine is a straightforward and approachable example of the style, with notes of bread dough and citrus on the nose, followed by hints of tangerine on the finish. Refreshingly zippy on the palate, yet dense enough to stand up to most foods.”
Greenwing Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley ($29.99)
“Finding quality cabernet sauvignon seems to be getting increasingly difficult in recent years, especially at reasonable price points. Greenwing is made by the famous California producer Duckhorn, and the quality of this great producer really comes through. The wine is sourced from their Washington vineyards, and the value is hard to beat. The nose is full of anise and dark fruits such as black plum and black cherry. The finish is long and well framed by silky tannins, with the dark fruit flavors being joined by subtle baking spice notes.”
The Calling Pinot Noir Russian River Valley ($36.39)
“For fans of wines with a lighter body and more finesse, this pinot noir is a great go-to bottle at a reasonable price, especially from a region as famous as Russian River Valley. The nose has some baking spice notes such as clove and nutmeg followed up by cherry and raspberry on the palate. The balanced acidity makes it a versatile food wine.”
Le Lion de La Fleur de Bouard Lalande de Pomerol 2020 ($24.99)
“One of my absolute favorite French reds in the store, the Le Lion drinks well above its price. The wine is immediately approachable and only continues to improve as it opens up. The nose is full of spicy notes such as tobacco and black pepper as well as green bell pepper. The palate is dark and rich with blackberry and black plum notes followed by more bell pepper in the finish. This has been a consistent favorite for my regular customers, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.”
