Saint Benjamin Beer Dinner at La Peg Brasserie

As part of a new dinner series, La Peg Brasserie will be featuring local brewing company Saint Benjamin at a beer dinner on Wednesday, December 2nd at 6:30pm-10PM.

The menu will feature: 5 beers (8 oz. pours) and 4 courses at $50 per person.

Featured beers are: Liaison Saison, Saison Du Jour VII, Foul Weather Jack English Ale, Inca, and Koffee Kolsh.

Menu and pairings are as follows:

• Aperitif Beer
  Liaison Saison – 8.0% ABV- A lightly hopped, dry saison with notes of peppercorn and a slight lavender finish. This floral beer appeals to Saison aficionados as well as casual beer drinkers.
• 1st course: Winter Salad
  Chesnuts, bacon lardons, seared mushrooms, celery root, escarole, red onion and poached pear
  Beer: Foul Weather Jack English Ale – 4.5% ABV- A Classic English Mild Ale named for a British Admiral. Every time this 18th century sailor went to sea he went in a doomed ship that sank due to beastly weather. The Foul Weather Jack is a dry, roasty, session beer, with chocolate notes. It is equally satisfying on a hot summer day, or a cold rainy night at sea.
• 2nd course: Fois Gras Terrine
  Reisling thyme gelee spice bread and sea salt
  Beer: Saison Du Jour VII – 6.8% ABV – combines a simple malt bill of pilsner and unmalted rye with huge additions of continental hop varietals. Unrestrained fermentation with a special Belgian yeast produces an exceptionally dry and aromatic example of a traditionally styled Saison.
• 3rd course: Seafood Choucroute
  Monkfish, scallops, shrimp, sauerkraut, fingerling potatoes, parsley beurre blanc
  Beer: Inca – 5.4% ABV – An India Cream Ale, Inca is our reinvention of a classic American style with West Coast sensibilities. Light and hoppy.
• Dessert: Kugelhopf
  Alasatian brioche, coffee creme anglaise and vanilla ice cream
  Beer: Koffee Kolsh – 4.8% ABV- Drink local. Completely local. We took our traditional German kolsch recipe and stamped a huge 215 on it, adding fresh roasted java beans from Kensington’s ReAnimator Coffee. This straw-col- ored beer, a perfect marriage of bitterness, malt-y sweetness and a strong coffee aroma, is as interesting as Philly is tough. Why should stouts have all the fun anyway?
