New Happy Hour at SUGA

SUGA, the Modern Chinese restaurant in Rittenhouse Square led by Philadelphia culinary legend, Susanna Foo and her son Gabe, is excited to introduce a new selection of custom crafted cocktails and updated bar bites menu as part of the latest iteration of their happy hour program. The program, a first of many new initiatives for SUGA, marries the flavors of Susanna’s childhood and travels with Gabe’s modern and non-traditional twists.

The recently developed specialty cocktail list features creative concoctions including:

• Foo Fighter ($11.00) made with coconut-infused sake, kaffir lime and ginger;

• Good-Natured Gabe ($12) combining rye, raw honey and fresh lemon;

• All That Jasmine ($11) featuring jasmine tea-infused gin, Aperol, and Q tonic;

• The Sparkling Susanna ($10), with bubbles, passionfruit, and elderflower liqueurs.

The cocktails, normally priced up to $13, are $7 during happy hour.

A house-selected white and red by the glass are $6 and bottles of Tsingtao are $5. The happy hour that will have tongues buzzing is the Sparkling Peach Jelly Sake Shot ($5). Imported from Japan, found only at SUGA, the refreshing and slightly fizzy peach flavored sake presents like a liquid but has a jelly texture. It is also available as a specialty cocktail.

Susanna Foo’s signature style of fusion cooking with heavy nods to her varied heritage shines in the new Petite Plates menu available during happy hour giving diners delicious, yet moderately priced ($3-$6) samples of her cuisine. Snacks and easily-shared bites include:

• Crispy Shrimp Spring Rolls;

• Scallion Pancakes;

• Curried Chicken Dumplings;

• Sichuan Beef Tacos with Kimchi;

• Spicy English Cucumbers;

• Vegetarian Taiwanese Dan Dan Mian – sesame and chili oil noodles topped with radish and scallion;

• and a SUGA favorite, Popcorn Pork Ravioli (pictured) – mini dumplings of pork and corn fried to golden perfection.

Happy hour is seven days a week from 5-7 p.m. at SUGA, located at 1720 Sansom Street.
