Happy 50th Anniversary Morey’s Piers!

We were fortunate enough to visit last year during the Oktoberfest celebration in the Fall. There’s something to be said about a visit in the off-season — pre-Memorial Day or post-Labor Day. When we traveled down in October, we hunkered down at the spectacular Starlux Boutique Hotel. The weather was actually perfect!

One of our favorite places to stay in Wildwood, the Starlux is right up our alley because of its retro, Mid-Century Modern vibe.

I grew up going to Wildwood as a kid for the beach and boardwalk, but it wasn’t until I was an adult that I started appreciating it for its quirky Modernist charm. It’s like a step back in time and unlike any other shore town.

Wildwood became a hot Jersey Shore vacation destination, especially in the post-war 1950s, when more and more cars were hitting the highways.

Predominantly known for its stunning “doo wop” (wild and wacky) and “Googie” (futuristic, Atomic-age) architecture, Wildwood continues to draw fans of this distinct Americana style. The town’s Doo Wop Preservation League works hard to preserve and promote appreciation of the kitschy district.

We adored our suite at the Starlux, not only for the look and feel, but it’s in the heart of Wildwood and just steps from the beach and boardwalk. You can’t get any closer to the action! Not into all that? Just hang out in the large glass-paneled lounge and kidney-shaped pool. Truly stunning when it’s all lit up at night!

We can’t recommend Wildwood, NJ and Morey’s Piers enough — with a stay at the Starlux Boutique Hotel — as your summer destination.
