First Look at First Watch in Cherry Hill

Daytime-only restaurants are popping up in the area. First came Turning Point, now there’s First Watch. The growing chain prides itself on scratch cooking using only fresh ingredients. It serves breakfast, brunch, and lunch all day long.

With a few locations in surburban Philadelphia, First Watch launched its first New Jersey location last Monday at 1012 Haddonfield Road in Cherry Hill (across from Wegmans).

We previewed the new restaurant before it opened last Saturday. We enjoyed everything we tried and the coffee was very good. They have their own blend, called Project Sunrise, which comes from beans by women coffee growers in Huila, Colombia. The proceeds go back to the women business owners.

We tried the Million Dollar Bacon, which is exactly how I like my bacon. Soft, chewy, and flavorful. What makes it worth a million bucks is the bacon is hardwood smoked and baked with brown sugar, black pepper, cayenne, with a maple syrup drizzle. Sweet, salty, fatty, sticky! Decadent!

The Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict was delightful. I love that their benedicts come on Ciabatta Toast. It’s a heartier replacement for the traditional English muffin. The Wild Alaska Sockeye Salmon imparted light smokiness so it did not overwhelm the dish. The hollandaise could have been a bit thicker for my liking, but it tasted good. The roasted home fried potatoes were spot on and poached eggs were what #yolkporn dreams are made of!

The Traditional Breakfast with your choice of egg, potatoes, sausage, and toast was very good, however, the portion of scrambled eggs was very small. The ratio of egg to potato could be calibrated. Otherwise, it was tasty.

We can’t wait to go back and try more!
Let us know when you go and tell us what you thought.
