Pennsauken’s Dr. Ron Jones is opening Back Alley Barbeque at 2591 Haddonfield Rd as early as next week. Pending final approval and final touches on the interior, he’ll open the doors on Wednesday, June 6. UPDATE 6/21: opened today!
He’s been smoking and grilling outside at Columbus Farmers Market for several years, as well as Rutgers Football games, but when the former Mama’s Cookie Lounge (now in Palmyra) became available, he decided to go brick & mortar closer to home. Before it was Mama’s Cookie Lounge, it had been a BBQ spot called Big Bob’s Smoke’n Racks for many years.
Expect brisket, pork ribs, chicken, pulled pork, and popular sides such as baked beans, macaroni & cheese, green beans, cornbread, and slaw.
Eventually, he’ll be doing a fish fry on Fridays and occasionally cooking up beef ribs as a special. He’s open to hearing what people want and will adjust for demand. All of the barbecue sauce will be made in-house by Ron himself. There will be a small kids menu with chicken fingers and such.
Hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
Can’t wait! Stay tuned for more.
