A Look at Pizzeria Vetri’s New Expanded Menu

Known as one of the best pizza places in Philadelphia, Pizzeria Vetri recently expanded their menu for the first time since the Art Museum location opened 5 years ago. Since then, locations in Rittenhouse Square, King of Prussia, and Washington D.C have opened. The former Marc Vetri-owned pizzeria is currently owned and operated by Urban Outfitters.

The new items — seasoned Italian olives, pork meatballs and Brussel sproutsare available on the menu along with seasonal winter pies. We recently had the opportunity to check out these new dishes and a couple of cocktails, too.

If you are an olive lover, you’ll dig the perfectly seasoned Italian olives ($4.50). These sumptuously briny, herbed tri-color olives are pleasingly plump and come displayed in a charming black mug. You’ll eat quite a few of these, I assure you.

The Pork Meatballs ($9) and accompanying marinara sauce are to die for! Perfectly cooked inside, charred on the bottom from a visit to the brick oven, topped with generous spoonfuls of bright marinara, grated Parmigiano Reggiano, and fresh parsley. What’s not to love about that?!

Sprouts aren’t for everyone, but I love them. I really enjoyed these Roasted Brussels Sprouts ($8) with a savory gremolata, lemon zest, and mixed herbs. This extra-large small plate is ideal for sharing with a group.

I highly recommend that you order all three of these items as an antipasti flight. And don’t forget PV’s famous Rotolo ($5), a pizza dough knot filled with mortadella, ricotta, and pistachio pesto. Divine!

Pizzeria Vetri Pastinaca Pie

During our visit, we tried two of their seasonal pies. The “Pastinaca” Winter Pie features roasted parsnips, charred Brussels leaves, brown butter parsnip sauce, mozzarella, parmigiana, lemon zest, and fresh parsley. I usually don’t go crazy over thin-crust pizza, but they are masters of authentic, rustic Italian pizza dough here. The high-temperature brick oven gives it a requisite browned and charred crust in a matter of minutes, but it’s still very chewy while strong enough to hold the toppings. I’m not a big fan of crispy pizza so this was *perfect* for me. YMMV.

The other seasonal pie we sampled was the “Cipolla” Winter Pie with glazed onions, Piave, mozzarella, parmigiana, croutons, and micro greens. I actually could have gone without the croutons, but everything else was quite delightful. The onions were so caramelized, they nearly melted on top creating a nice onion jam of sorts. A perfect sweet & savory pie, if you will.

Pizzeria Vetri Blood Orange Collins

The Blood Orange Collins ($11) is a must try. This refreshing cocktail is made with Reyka vodka, blood orange juice, and rosemary. It’s a touch on the sweet side but packs a nice little punch. I’m a big fan!

The Aperol Spritz ($9) is also quite delightful and such a pretty drink, too. Aperol, prosecco, and club soda. If you love bubbles, you’ll love this one! I sure did.

I highly recommend that you check out the new menu items at one of Pizzeria Vetri’s two city locations (1615 Chancellor Street in Rittenhouse Square or 1939 Callowhill Street in the Art Museum area) or the newest one in at the King of Prussia Mall. If you do, tell ’em Philly Grub sent ya!

Special thanks to Urban Outfitters for arranging our visit. As always, our opinions are our own and therefore unbiased.
