Tasty Talks at Yangming in Bryn Mawr

Tasty Talks at Yangming Bryn Mawr

Tasty Talks is a new series of lunchtime talks being hosted at Yangming Restaurant in Bryn Mawr, PA by Michelle Leonard, a realtor on the Main Line for Century 21. Mutual friends brought this to my attention thinking I might like to attend. I like that the monthly event has a different speaker every month focusing on the simple topic of “making a difference.” There have been two Tasty Talks so far. The first with Marilyn Russell of WOGL and the second with Jim Donovan of CBS3.

The next one on Wednesday, November 29th will feature Kyree Terrell of MyNewPhilly. The one after that on Wednesday, December 27th one will feature Ken Dunek of Philly/Jersey Man Magazines. Each speaker chooses a charity in which 100% of the proceeds go towards. The $20 ticket price includes admission, hors-d’oeuvres, lunch, dessert, tax, and tip! Not bad at all.

Since I like people and places that do good things for charities, I am happily sharing this with you. I wanted to learn more about it, so I send Michelle a few questions.

Philly Grub: What isTasty Talks?
Michelle Leonard: Tasty Talks is a fun luncheon that meets the last Wednesday of the month with various people in media sharing with us their interpretation on making a difference. It’s a great way for us to get to know the people behind the pen, microphone, and camera in a different, more intimate way.

PG: What inspired you to start Tasty Talks?
ML: Two things. My love of people. Learning about them, getting to know about them and connecting them. The other is my love of Yangming including the owner Michael Wei and his incredible team. They have been like family to me. When I decided to start these talks, I knew I wanted to also share the Yangming experience with the audience. You won’t feel as welcome anywhere else! They also have been so generous to allow proceeds to go the charity of the speaker’s choosing. Everyone feels great about that!

PG: What has been the best part of hosting it at Yangming?
ML: Well Yangming puts the “Tasty” in Tasty Talks! They work on a new menu each month. There are special items that aren’t even on the menu.

PG: What are your expectations for Tasty Talks in the future?
ML: Everyone had such a great experience with our first speaker, Marilyn Russell of WOGL that many of them came back for our second speaker Jim Donovan news anchor at CBS 3, who is a draw himself. I see this series growing and growing. The speakers will be from different backgrounds and we’ll tailor the format to them.  These aren’t cookie cutter talks and they have been attended by some notable people in the Philadelphia area as well as anyone who is interested.   We’re here to have fun, learn something and feel good. The bonus is we’re also about giving to charity. It’s about making a difference, and I hope I can do that.

If you can make it, I highly suggest that you go. Sounds interesting, for good causes plus yummy food from Yangming!
