Red Owl Tavern Adds New Take on “Citywide Special” Offers Dozen Oysters and Bottle of Bubbles Throughout Summer
Old City’s Red Owl Tavern, located in the heart of historic Philadelphia, is taking a newer piece of the city’s tradition and turning it on its head. Red Owl Tavern is introducing a summer Citywide Special of a dozen oysters and a bottle of sparkling wine for $33.
Traditionally a shot of Jim Beam and a PBR for $3, the Citywide Special has become a Philadelphia institution over the past decade. The standard whiskey and beer combo has seen many creative variations, and Red Owl Tavern is taking their variation above and beyond.
“We wanted to do a fun summertime program that’s perfect for outdoor dining on the patio,” Executive Chef Jorge Chicas said. “We also love the concept of the Citywide Special and pushing its limits a bit further than whiskey and a PBR pounder.”
Chef Chicas is serving the freshest East Coast oysters-of-the-day with mignonette and house-made cocktail sauce. The accompanying sparkling wine includes De Perriere Blanc de Blanc Brut among others to be selected based on that day’s oyster selection.
Red Owl Tavern’s summer Citywide Special is available every day, starting today, throughout the summer months on the patio at historic corner of 5th & Chestnut Sts.
